Some Mayans are in Yucatan, Mexico. Most are in many parts of Guatemala, and a few in El Salvador. As being a Mayan from Guatemala, let me tell you that many of us Mayans are still here. Our culture has remained alive, thanks to our ancestors. However, as stated before, many of our people now these days do not recognize our culture. Many don't do so because they were taught to hide the culture for fear of getting discriminated as our ancestors had before. Due to this, our culture is slowly diminishing. But there are a few of us who are trying to stop this from occurring. Let me tell you, it is a big challenge.Tainej e b'a (take care)

Although the Mayan Empire was destroyed by the Spanish Conquistadores in the 16th century, Mayans still exist, they are not extinct.
