The geography of Egypt profoundly affected the ancient culture located there. The climate is healthy and there was very little disease comparably to other cultures of that time period. The country is dominated by flat desert plains so it is isolated and innacesible to invading forces. The Nile River is the longest on Earth and is the bringer of life to a country otherwise dominated by the desert. The Nile Valley is situated in the center of the country and it cuts a swath approximately twenty miles wide. It has a large delta before the Mediterranean Sea, and the river deposits fertile soil for farming and is also used for transportation. The Nile makes civilization possible and even today over 95% of the population lives within the valley.
