The (English) Bill of Rights was enacted by parliament in 1689 and is still in use in Commonwealth realms. It restricted religious freedom by declaring the supremacy of the Protestant faith. It also defined the rights and freedoms of the common man and the dilution of the power of the monarchy. It forms the basis of many of the European constitutions and was one of the inspirations of the US Bill of rights. Some passages of the latter are verbatim from the original act.

The Act of Succession is amended to be gender free and include those married to Catholics. However a Catholic is still barred from ascending the throne. In the Coronation Oath the monarch still declares allegiance to both the Church of England and Church of Scotland.
