Slavery began thousands of years ago. It was so widespread that it is now impossible to tell where it began. In the New World, slavery began with the Spanish who enslaved native peoples to work in the mines and in the fields. When too many of them died of disease and overwork, Spaniards imported slaves from Africa. Slavery was pervasive in Europe during the period when the North American colonies were formed. It was not outlawed in England and its colonies until the 1830s.
Yankees were supposedly against slavery, but the main reason this was said was to gain European sympathies during the Civil War. The war was started because the Union (yankees) wanted to keep the southern states from becoming the Confederate States of America.
THe main reason for settlement in America was fur trade and land developement
well the nothern colonies had harsh climate and had small farms because of that. The Southern Colonies had the opposite of that their was sunshine no rain thats the reason why they have large farms and small towns and since they had small towns that meant that thewy had no schools! yeah awsome right wrong because unlike the northern colonies the southern colonies didn't have alot of jobs.
The colonies in the south of the New World were founded because they were thousands of square miles of arable land. The land became a goldmine of agriculture.
It can easily be said that when all the other reasons for the Southern rebellion are cast aside, slavery was a key issue. Or, to put the answer in a different light, if there was no slavery in the US in 1860, there would never have been a civil war.
southern colonies refused to use indians as forced labor
No. By the mid 1700's slavery had been outlawed in several northeastern states. Yet, the Black citizens did not escape discrimination in those states. The southern states because of the need for slaves due to crop production held the largest population of slaves. Yes, they were.
They did NOT have slavery. Only the south did.
The main reason the Union fought in the war was to keep the Southern states in the Union. Another reason was to abolish slavery.
A principal reason for opposing slavery's expansion was a fear of competition with Southern slaveholders.
The Southern colonies were the ones with the big plantations, where they needed lots of people to work the fields. And slaves were the cheapest labor force available. New York and New Jersey didn't have as much large-scale farming, so not as much use for slaves.
The southern states were apposed to the abolishment of slave trade and slavery. This one of the major reason for the escalation of the war.
Yes, that was largely the reason for the war
Yankees were supposedly against slavery, but the main reason this was said was to gain European sympathies during the Civil War. The war was started because the Union (yankees) wanted to keep the southern states from becoming the Confederate States of America.

The main reason French and Dutch settlers start colonies in North America was the abundance of natural resource. The land was rich with just about everything from trees to food and minerals.
The need for workers is the reason for slavery. At first the colonies used indentured servants, but many when they got to the colonies faded into the population after a period of time. Slaves couldn't do this since they were African American and anyone who was a slave.
