Personally I don’t believe that the emancipation did what we expected it to do, which was free slaves in what was a country we did not exactly have jurisdiction over. however, there is the thought that Lincoln used the emancipation as a military tactic; causing the British to realize that the war was now about slavery (slavery had been already abolished in GB so at the time they were against it), it also caused a moral boost both in our army and the army that was yet to come (the 54th Massachusetts Regiment)...but all of this is open to opinion just make sure you research before you argue any case:D
