Jamaica is an island in the Caribbean not in Africa (or anywhere near Africa). So Jamaicans aren't African. They are dark skinned (black) but not of African heritage so they can't be an African American.

ok let me start of by saying that i am jamaican. and u are absolutely wrong, MOST jamaican have some sort of african ancestry. thats where the color in our skin comes from. the thing is, we are not americans so it would be silly to call us african americans. african american refers to AMERICANS with african decent and only them. however we are JAMAICANS with african decent so it would make more sense to call us african jamaicans but that isnt a term so we just call ourselves black (to tell u the truth, even the indians i know in jamaica would consider themselves black over white because in our heads jamaica is a black country) (allthough it really isnt). the actual term is afro-jamaican. but as i said, we just call ourselves black people because of the african decent.
