Yes. Some people do believe in the imminent end of the world, Judgement Day and the Second Coming of Jesus.
The earliest prophecy that we have in Christianity of the end of the world is in Mark chapter 13, which said 'this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.' This may have encouraged some to convert to Christianity rather than risk a fiery judgement within their own lifetimes. John's Gospel, written some decades later, made no such prediction, perhaps because it was apparent that Jesus' generation had passed without the Day of Judgement.
As the end of the first millennium of Christianity approached, there was a widespread belief that the year 1000 would herald Judgement Day and the Second Coming.
The nineteenth century was once again a time of intense speculation about the imminent Judgement Day. The founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, held out the promise that the return of Christ would be within the first generation of believers.
Within the Jehovah's Witnesses, the years 1874, 1914, 1918, 1925 and 1975 were all earmarked, to a greater or lesser extent, as times for the Second Coming of Christ and the Day of Judgement. It has been estimated that after the failure of this prophecy in 1975, around 1 million members defected between that year and and 1981. To this day, Witnesses' belief in the imminence of the end of time as we know it prevents Witnesses from making advanced plans for the future.
Even within mainstream Christian Churches, some Christians see the Book of Revelation as prophesying a Day of Judgement, whether in this generation or far off in the future.
Answer:
Just name something, and there will be those who "believe" it.
Just pick something out of the air, and believe in it.
Some folks "believe" in the "Brotherhood of Man"... in which, given enough time [if mankind doesn't kill himself off, first] mankind will solve all of his problems, cure all diseases, stop all wars, and at long last live in peace and harmony with one another.
The term, "doomsday," is a concoction of man and isn't found in The Bible. Yet, there are those who "believe" it's coming... based on the way they see this crazy world is headed with all its bickering, warring nations... and the high-tech weapons of mass destruction with which they all seek to arm themselves. The "believers" in "doomsday" don't "believe" in the Brotherhood of Man.
But the word is out there -- so there are those who believe in "doomsday."
The "Day of Judgment" is found in the Bible, a Holy Spirit-inspired book, that Jesus calls "Truth" [John 17:17].
"Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the Day of Judgment, than for that city." (Matt.10:15)
The Bible refers to "Judgment Day" as the "Last Great Day." Picturing it as coming at the "end of God's plan," of which the majority of mankind seems to be unaware. It's pictured as a "squaring of things" in the world -- the long-awaited "justice" in the world, when the god of this world, Satan, is removed, along with all of his deception and spiritual blindness that he has held over the generations of man -- and the Truth of God will shine through to the hearts and minds of all men, for them to make their personal informed descision as to whether or not they will seek their Creator's mercy and forgiveness... and Eternal Life.
Jesus gives us a sample of how "Judgment Day" will go down, when He stood on the "Last Great Day" of the Feast of Tabernacles in the book of John:
"In the Last Day, that Great Day of the Feast[that pictures Judgment Day], Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of Living Water. (But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)" (John 7:37-39)
This image of "Judgment Day" in the Bible that Jesus gives us may be different from how most people "believe" it will be. But plenty of people "believe" it's coming... however they picture it in their minds.
"Judgment Day" is in the Bible along with many other things in which people "believe."
"Doomsday" isn't in the Bible. But that doesn't matter... people "believe" in it, anyway. Just name anything at all... and it will give someone somewhere "something to believe in."
Actually it was "the british are coming" and one man, Paul Revere
coming directly from actually experiencing or seeing something.
I believe Iceland and the Faroe Islands
The world will not end in 2 days because nobody knows when the world is going to end. God is coming to get the ones that believe in him and served him and leave the people that dont believe in him and leave them behind... The world will not end in 2 days because nobody knows when the world is going to end. God is coming to get the ones that believe in him and served him and leave the people that dont believe in him and leave them behind...
"The British are coming! The British are coming!" That's actually incorrect. Although everyone now thinks that's what he said, due to a very inaccurate poem, he actually said, "The Regulars are coming out!" It would have made no sense at the time for him to say the British are coming, because at the time the Patriots still considered themselves British.
after judgment day
Jonah
No we do not believe in purgatory, but we do believe in hell. We believe that when a person dies they remain in a temporary sleep until the second coming of Jesus. Heaven and Hell comes after the eternal judgment at the end of time
One of the theories of this and other paranormal instances increasing in power is the coming of 2012. Although a lot of people believe it to be the oncoming doomsday, there is still a quite a bit of people that recognize it as the coming of a new age. They believe that in this knew age the "veil" between the mundane and the supernatural shall diminish, giving those with differing psychic powers a higher atunement.
It is a depiction of the Second Coming of Christ.

Beliefs on what happens when you die vary from denomination to denomination. Some churches do believe exactly what you say, that the dead rest until Judgment Day and only at that time will the righteous go to Heaven. Other churches believe that personal Judgment is proximate to the individual's death, and that the righteous go to Heaven to await the Second Coming. Some churches may also believe that the wicked go immediately to Hell, or may believe that only the righteous experience eternal life and the wicked are made to rest until the Final Judgment at which time they will be destroyed or relegated to Hell. Further, some churches have a separate realm where souls are "purified" before entry into Heaven, which may be as soon as the soul itself is ready or may require waiting for Judgment Day.
i don't believe they are coming.
