The Chinese have had most of their land taken by Ghengis Khan's army of mongols during the height of the mongol empire (the main reason why the great wall was built.) But don't forget, this once isolated band of competing tribes, clans, and warlords were brought together under a single banner. Teamwork does pay off in the end as they say! Kublai Khan founded the empire, and they spread to take over the middle east, eastern Europe, most of central and southern Asia, and even reaching into India and Egypt, becoming the world's largest empire. Not bad for a bunch of marauding mongols! So China had to face a great menace. They were fortunate that they recovered.
