I do believe that they are not not illegal.
Flamethrowers in modern warfare are primarily used for clearing out enemy positions, destroying fortifications, and creating barriers. They can impact military tactics and strategies by providing a powerful and intimidating weapon that can quickly neutralize threats and change the course of a battle. Additionally, the psychological impact of flamethrowers can demoralize enemy forces and disrupt their defenses.

Crude (by today's standards) portable flamethrowers were used extensively in WW I, first by Germany, then Britain (1917). But the modern man portable types were first used in WW II by Americans in the 1942 Pacific theater, while British and French deployed them in Europe as early as 1939. Americans on Omaha Beach (at the Normandy invasion) also had two man teams to deploy flamethrowers in June 1944. And of course, they were used extensively in the deep jungle terrain in Viet Nam
Flamethrowers arnt outlawed
A World War II veteran. The US military doesn't issue flamethrowers anymore. In addition to the above, it should be noted that flamethrowers were used in Korea and Vietnam, as well.
Flamethrowers throw fire or "flames as in flamethrower" so you would never like to be in front of it.
