After the Seven Years' War (also known in America as the French and Indian War), England's debt had greatly increased. The mother country turned to her colonies, who had paid little to nothing for their protection during the war. Taxes in the colonies began to increase as multiple laws and acts were passed, including the Sugar Act (1764) , the Stamp Act (1765), and the Quartering Act (1765). As taxes grew, resentment of the mother country grew. Numerous rebellions and uprisings occurred, such as the Boston Tea Party. The colonists were not initially looking for independence from the mother country, only more relaxed laws. However colonists eventually snapped and, starting with the Lexington Massacre, war broke out.

A concept of government refers to the fundamental ideas and principles that underpin the structure and function of a governing body. It encompasses theories about authority, power, and the role of the state in society, including various forms such as democracy, monarchy, and authoritarianism. These concepts help define how laws are created, enforced, and interpreted, as well as the relationship between the government and its citizens. Ultimately, they shape the political landscape and influence how societies organize and govern themselves.
