When Soviet attacked Finland in 1939 the US criticised it and all relations froze. As USA had intervened with troops in the Russian Civil War 1918-20, and deported masses of Bolshevik sympathisers, the level of trust was low.

After the end of the German-Soviet pact, communication was continued, as they now fought a common adversary. Even before USA entering the war, they sent military equipment, aircraft, ships, trucks, food and other things that were lacking in the fight against Hitler, and the Russians paid for some of it with gold, or by the Lend-Lease agreement, but they couldn't afford much to present to the USA. Other countries allowed establishment of US military bases, but it didn't happen in the USSR. Stalin was secretive to his people about the extent of the aid coming from the "capitalist allies".

All of the Allies contributed in ending the war. Soviet military dead probably totalled more than 10 million, suffering the war's biggest losses, causing grudge about the delay to invade France to relieve pressure from the eastern Front. The battles at Kursk and Stalingrad were the first major land victories of the war, beside El-Alamein. The Japanese decision to surrender was made in part on the Soviet entry into the war against them, which happened after the a-bomb over Hiroshima.

However, there was also spying and competing, to get the most of the control in Europe after the war, and also for prestige in the battle of Germany. Also as both sides despised the other's political views, they didn't care much if those lost men, as long as Hitler was subdued. The direct military support on the battle field was basically negligible.

The design of T-34, the back bone of the Red Army, influenced a lot of tanks in and after WWII.
