Is this a joke? He killed and imprisoned more than a half of the people of the USSR.
Modernize and industrialize the Soviet Union.
Based on his speech at 1937 in Bolshoi Theatre, Stalin said that the intelligentsia class were necessary to help him fulfill state's tasks.
The Soviet Union Leader Josef Stalin was an evil man but he was the leader of the USSR. He did help the Allies win the war however he also started the Cold War. The US was then faced with nearly five decades of conflict with the USSR.
Joseph Stalin faced many problems some of which were, Religion, up rising of the people, food shortages and World War II. Stalin being Communist, needed to remove religion to help control the people, he finally backed off this in the 1950's due to the continuing uprising due to religious faith. To attempt to quell the up rising's he attempted to hold back food basically starving the people. The worst of this was in the Ukraine from 1932-'34 where Russian reports of 6 million people starved to death, and world reports were that 10 million people were starved to death. Then World War II hit which caused major issues with all countries, Russia did sign a treaty with Germany that after dividing Poland and Russia taking over over countries the German's attacked Russia ending the treaty. But the Major issue that Stalin faced was trying to take away all the rights and freedom's the Soviet people had. He executed over a million people, had many of his military leaders killed, and still he had people fighting for their freedom.
Once Hitler broke the treaty with Stalin, the Germans invaded Russia. Russian forces, with the help from Russia's terrible winter weather, eventually drove the Germans back, with great loss of life on both sides.
When it became clear to Lenin that there would be no Western democracy help to the USSR by staging their own workers' revolution, he had to adopt the "Socialism in one country" policy. Stalin took hold of this idea as well. Stalin also adopted Lenin's modernization of Marxism by declaring that imperialism was the highest form of capitalism. To safeguard the Soviet Union, he made it clear that to build socialism in the USSR, there could be no "white gloves". This meant that there would be bloodshed to make Lenin's dream come true. Stalin's policy was to turn the USSR from an agrarian economy into an industrial nation. Only by doing this could guarantee the independence of the USSR as it was encircled by imperialist-capitalist enemies. While few inside the USSR could fault Stalin for this stance, it was Stalin's methods that greatly disturbed the left wing of the party. And, the cult of personality surrounding Stalin began to take shape.

I am lost reading this question. I cannot tell if you mean USA or some people. I believe you may be asking about the disagreements between the USA, the UK and the USSR. They disagreed about the freeing of all the European Nations because Stalin wanted to keep his conquered countries for the USSR. This began the Cold War. The UK was furious over the USSR not freeing Poland since they got into the war initially to help Poland (which they did not do).
I have done some research and as it occurs, there was a brief period that some refer to as the occupation of Yugoslavia from the USSR. During the WWII, what was later formed as Yugoslavia was defended by the Partisans, a peoples movement inspired by communism, and one must add, the simple need for defense. The Russian forces did help in the final push against the Germans, and Yugoslavia remained communist for many decades. This is where the occupation part comes in - as the Russian forces barged in to help against the Germans, they stayed for some time. But, the country was never even remotely a part of the USSR, later there was even a fallout between Tito, the leader of the communist Yugoslavia, and the leader of the USSR at the time.
not with sputnik exactly but with the space program definitely yes. Before 1945 Stalin had full knowledge of the Atomic bomb and wanted German scientific information. Stalin, on NKVD advice, launched a renewal of soviet science, often selecting gulag scientists. Of course Stalin's achievement was virtually wiped from the record. But without Stalin's encouragement the USSR would have rapidly collapsed in the mod fifties instead of 1990. Whether or not this was a good thing requires history to judge impartially.
Mostly murder and genocide. As much if not more than Hitler. Prior to the Russian Revolution in 1917, Stalin organized and committed bank robberies to help finance the Bolshevik Party's activities. These were euphemistically called "expropriations" or "exes"
With Cookie in hand and Birthmark on head. He initiated "Perestroika" which literally translates to restructuring, and ended the command economy; a direct control by Joseph Stalin's own hand; and "Glasnost", openess opposed to the terrorfied silence induced by Stalin.
In a sense, yes. World War 2 was going to happen whether Russia (the USSR at the time) helped or not, but they did join up with Germany to help fight. Stalin was very communist, and just wanted more power. Hitler promised him more land and power if he helped them. Though, in the end, Russia switched sides when Hitler attempted to invade the USSR (but he failed, which ended up resulting in Stalin switching sides and helping end WW2).
