One of the first colonies was New York, established in 1664 when King Henry VIII took over by entering the land of the French. When he did they became a colony! And the name was made because he gave the land to his brother the Jester of York, and although he was a small role in the royal community, he gave the name of the land in his honor. New York! They made a living by fishing, and farming wheat, corn, and potatoes. They had very fertile soil, and were able to plant many crops throughout the year. They believed that God gave them everything they needed, as they thought good Christians would do.
