because life of immigrants became to work for the railroad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes many immigrants worked on the railroad and went on to become builders of a great nation but there where many other affects, most good, some bad.
On the bad side those living in Western Canada before the railroad had their life and culture changed dramatically. The rail enabled Canada to move administrators, tax collectors, troops and the Canadian Paramilitary force the NWMP much easier than on boat, foot or horseback. This made resistance to the new rulers much more difficult.
The rail also brought wave after wave of new immigrants to what is now Western Canada. First Canadian, then European and then immigrants from around the world. These waves of Immigration quickly resulted in a once majority being a tiny minority whose rights and concerns could be ignored.
On the good side the railway gave Canada access to Western resources which included fertile farmland for growing grain and room for millions more Canadians.
It played a major role in the Canadian dream of a nation from ocean to ocean to ocean.
Canada would not be the Canada we know without the railway, it was a big expensive risk that has paid many dividends and continues to pay dividends even today.

the first "trans-continental" US railroad was created by the Union Pacific and Central Pacific, but it wasnt truly a transcontinental as it did not reach the east coast as one railroad company, it just crossed the Continental Divide... basically the Rocky Mountains. The US has never had a truly transcontinental rr company, (I believe the Milwaukee Road (Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul and Pacific) came closest; at one time reached from Oregon to as far east as Westport, IN). In Canada, however, the Canadian National (also spelled Canadien National) reaches coast to coast.
