I personally think that all of Gandhi's movements helped too starta lot of independent movements in different areas of the world. Although I cannot answer the exact question that is asked, I do believe that it probably did have a part in the Vietnam's independent movement. Gandhi's work had to have some kind of effect on the people in Vietnam. Even though it may have just had an effect on a few of the people in Vietnam, those few people may have talked to there friends about it and therefor stirred something up, causing the independent movement in Vietnam.
You may be thinking about the domino effect. It was used to frighten the people into thinking that if Vietnam became communist, all the other countries would join them.
