How has portraiture Changed over time?

Portraits have changed a lot over time, for example since the Tudor and Elizabethan portraits people have always wanted to look perfect to impress other people and to show how much power they have by wearing certain objects like jewellery. But in the 20th century, cameras have been invented so people could just take photos of you without trying to make you look perfect. In my opinion art hasn't really changed that much before the 20th century because they are all in the same position and have the same facial expression. In 1912 there is a portrait that looks like its been drawn in biro, which is really different compared to the others as it is one of the first ones that has not been a photo or been painted in acrylic paint. In the Victorian and Edwardian portraits the objects around them or on them show their profession and their power like I said before, for example Charles Dickens portrait has ink and paper around him, which shows that he is a writer. But nowadays there are drawn in different types of styles, like black and white, which only contain their selves. Also in the past they always wanted to look professional as only the rich could have portraits done. Now they use different art materials like colouring pencil's and oil pastels. Some people nowadays don't want to look perfect in portraits but want to show what they look like to themselves
