Albert Einstein was a physicist who developed some of the early theories of nuclear reaction. Even though he would not work on the design of the atomic bombs, the scientist used his knowledge to develope it.


One of his most famous equations was a simple one:


E = m X C^2


where 'E' is energy and 'm' is mass of a particle and 'c' is the speed of light.


This equation stated that a particle could be converted into pure energy. The amount of energy that would be produced is the Square(^2) of the Speed of Light(c). This is a tremendous amount of energy. Once this equation was identified in the lab, then the scientists had to find a practical way of creating this nuclear reaction on a large scale.
