Concerning the US Civil War Battle of Gettysburg, between 46,000 and 51,000 Americans were casualties in the three-day battle. This includes soldiers killed, wounded, and captured or missing. It's safe to assume some of the men who were missing could have died and not found. The Union: 3,155 men killed The Confederacy: 4,708 killed If you are considering "casualties" to only be those men who died on the battlefield, the total would be 7,863.
Various sources provide varying numbers of losses. Some go into great detail of breaking down the killed, wounded, captured and MIA's. Basically the above figure on 46-51 casualties is accurate enough.
Union Army:
3,155 killed
14,531 wounded
5,369 captured or missing
Confederate Army:
4,708 killed
12,693 wounded
5,830 captured or missing
The total of Confederate casualties is given as 23,231. 4,708 killed, 12,693 wounded, and 5,830 missing or captured. This was for the three day battle at Gettysburg. The larger Union army suffered a few thousand more. For the entire campaign, which began in early June when the Rebel army started to move north, and ended in mid-July when the Rebel army crossed back to the south side of the Potomac River, total casualties including the climactic three days at Gettysburg totaled around 27,000. There were a dozen or so smaller battles going to and from Gettysburg. Many of those counted as "missing" were dead, and some have never been found. In the last twenty years two Rebel soldiers remains have been found on the battlefield and properly buried. Many of those counted as wounded would later die, and many POWs would also die in northern POW camps. All that being said, numbers about anything in the Civil War are never, ever exact or precise. These are best estimates derived from careful sudy of reports. No other single event in American history has had so much study and so much written and published about it, so these figures might be more exact than those available for many other Civil War battles, but they are assuredly not exact. The battlefield was in Union hands after the Rebels departed, and the burying was done by troops detailed for that purpose and also by some civilian volunteers. The Rebels were buried in mass graves dug in various convenient places. This was done as soon as possible, as the masses of dead men and horses were an obvious health hazard, and the smell in the July heat was unbearable. Enemy dead were understandably not the subject of as much concern as were the Union dead.
7,500 killed from both sides. Out of 160,000 men engaged in battle.
7,050 killed during the battle. 33,300 died later from wounds suffered during the battle.

The Gettysburg Address and the Battle of Gettysburg are related. The Battle of Gettysburg was known as the turning point of the war because so many Confederate soldiers were killed and the Confederates could no longer attempt to fight on Union ground or take the offensive side in a battle. This was because they had so many casualties. The Union had many casualties, too. In the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln is recognizing all of the Union soldiers who gave their lives to protect our democracy at Gettysburg by saying they died honorably and not in vain. The Gettysburg address inspired Union soldiers and supporters every and reinforced the idea that our government"of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth."
Around 15,000 were killed on both sides at Gettysburg. Total casualties were more than 50,000 including captured, wounded, missing, etc. The generally accepted figures for the entire war are about 650,000 dead and a total of something near two million total casualties.
There were many battlers during the Civil War. Some includes the Battle of Gettysburg, Battle of Fort Sumter, Battle of Middle Creek, and the Battle of Williamsburg.
