∙ 13y ago- The total number of Jewish Holocaust dead was about six million. Up to four million of them were killed in extermination camps and concentration camps, and the other two million were killed in mass open air shootings or died of starvation or disease, mainly in ghettos.
- About 3.3 million Soviet prisoners-of-war perished in German captivity. This was the second largest group to die in German camps but is seldom mentioned.
- About 270,000 (?) Roma ('gypsies') were killed, mainly in camps.
- About 2 million non-Jewish Poles were killed, many on camps of various kinds.
- Perhaps half a million other victims were killed various kinds of camps.

∙ 14y agoIt's not known for sure but sources think it's between 700,000 and 1 million people. Birkenau and Auschwitz are sometimes counted TOGETHER since they're two parts of one big camp. When they're estimated together, the number can be more than 3 million people. ___ In 1989 Franciszek Piper, the director of the Auschwitz Museum provided a new, cautious estimate for the Auschwitz group of camps as a whole, which includes Birkenau (Auschwitz II). The overall estimate was about 1.1 million killed, of whom about 90% were Jews. Since then, most serious scholarly discussions have been about a range from 1.1-1.5 million. The figure for those used as forced labourers is about 200,000 and the others were killed shortly after arrival. Most of the 'others' were gassed or shot at Birkenau.
