The USS Lexington (CV-16), an Essex-class aircraft carrier, had a crew that typically ranged from about 2,500 to over 3,000 personnel during its operational years. The exact number could vary depending on the mission and the time period, but it consistently housed a large contingent of sailors, aviators, and support staff. Throughout its service, the ship played a significant role during World War II and the Vietnam War, contributing to numerous naval operations.
The first USS Lexington aircraft carrier was sunk in the Coral Sea. The second USS Lexington aircraft carrier survived it's predecessor and was decommissioned in 1991.
