I'm no expert, but if it's general background information you need, here goes....
I think you mean Germany. Russia wasnt divided after WW2, in fact it became larger after accumulating Poland and other states such as Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia etc. This happened because Russia fought the Germans from the east and having pushed the Germans back to Berlin decided to keep much of the territory they had crossed.
After WW2 Germany was initially broken down into two main regions...East Germany which was owned by the Soviet Union (Russia) until 1991 (?) and West Germany which was owned by the German people (this area had been accumulated by the allies as they pushed from the west during the war).
West Germany became a democracy but was subject to occupation by allied forces until 1991(?) and still to this day has large US and British Air bases etc on their soil. In the initial few years after WW2 West Germany was governed by the allies until a democratic government could be set up. The USA, Great Britain and France each controlled large zones.
In addition, Berlin (which was located entirely within East Germany) was divided in two, with the West of Berlin owned by West Germany and east by East Germany. Shortly after WW2 all roads into West Berlin were cut off from the outside world by the Soviet Union. This was an attempt by them to starve the West Berliners into submission and 'join' East Berliners as part of East Germany. The Allies were determined to stop this and so for weeks flew in massive amounts of food and supplies on hundreds of aircraft to West Berlin. This was known as The Marshall Plan. (Named after the US senator who organised it)
Later, West Berlin was surrounded by a large, fortified wall (The Berlin Wall) built by the Soviet Union. This was an attempt to stop East Germans from crossing into West Berlin and gaining freedom from the oppresive East German regime....since once inside of West Berlin they could get a flight to elsewhere.

The denominator is how many equal pieces that one whole unit is divided into. The numerator tells how many of those equal pieces is measured. So in the fraction 3/5, the unit is divided into 5 parts and you have 3 pieces of the whole.

While many shapes can be divided into more than four equal pieces, the most common shape with that characteristic would be a pentagon, which has five equal pieces, or fifths. Another shape that would be divided into a different amount of equal pieces would be a triangle, with three equal pieces or thirs. And a third would be a hexagon, with six equal pieces, or sixths.
