The Holocaust is the common term for the extermination and dispersal of over 90% of the Jews in Nazi Germany controlled Europe and USSR.

It is estimated that over 5.7 million Jews died, and another 2 million fled. Also a large number of Jewish children were given over to be raised as Christians.

The vast majority of these Jews were noncombatants.

Also about 300,000 Gypsies were exterminated as part of the Holocaust. These are the 2 major ethnic groups that the Germans targeted.

So altogether, more than 6 million people were killed and 2.5 million more were forced to flee from the Nazi Germany controlled parts of Germany.

These refugees had great difficulty finding a refuge, even outside of Europe and so suffered greatly. Another large number died during this Exodus.
