He helped influence culture in Italy by brining back some of the techniques and objects from Cathay, or China. Coal, for example is one. Marco used wood to heat his home and after travelling to Cathay the "black stones" as he referred to them, were later on helped to heat homes. Another example is Paper Money. When Kublai Kahn showed him the paper money they used to buy things, he was astonished to find that considering they traded Gold, Silver, Precious gems, or other valuables.
