Start Of World War 1
  • World War 1 started when Archduke Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in Austria on June 26, 1914 by a man named Gavrilo Princip. A series of events following this centered around Austria and Hungary caused alliances to be formed, and eventually war was declared.
Start of World War 2
  • World War 2 started when Hitler attacked Poland on September 1st 1939. Since the UK and France had treaties of alliance with Poland they promptly told Hitler to leave at once or they would declare war. He didn't, so they did.
  • The start of the war had nothing to do with religion, whether Judaism or any other; it was because of naked aggression by Hitler who wanted to rule the world and thought he could get away with it.
  • The USA did not enter the war at this time; although the US and the UK had been friends and de facto allies for a very long time, there was no formal alliance between them until the foundation of NATO in 1949.
  • In June of 1941 Hitler invaded the USSR. The conflict now became one between the UK, the British Empire and the USSR on one side, versus Germany, Austria and Italy on the other.
  • In December 1941 Japan attacked the US Pacific fleet in Pearl Harbor. The US immediately declared war on Japan, whereupon Hitler declared war on the US.
