I am a Chinese from Hong Kong.
China is not a superpower , but I agree China is very powerful.
China will have second largest economy by 2010.
China has $2 Trillion of foreign reserve which is the largest in the World.
China lent $800 billion to Washington.
China economy will grow 8% this year and next year.
China is the world largest exporter.
China sent man to space, shot down a satellite with missile.
China has nuclear ICBM which can blew up Washington.
China has the best diesel submarine shadow U.S. navy.
China has the third largest Stock Market in the world.
China can build jet fighters such as J10 and J11 on their own.
China set up vast trade network with almost everywhere in the world.
China has the world largest car market.
China won most gold medal in Beijing Olympic.
China has Hong Kong which is a global financial center and education hub.
China has good technology (but not world cutting edge) in I.T. and renewable energy.
China has Jackie Chan...
Blah Blah Blah... BUT!
She is not a superpower yet because:
Culture: Chinese is not a major language around the World, Chinese movies, songs, books are not very popular outside of China.
Political: The world is still skeptical about the China Communist Party, and China government yet to achieve independent legal system to protect their own people. Corruption still is serious issues. China supports many trouble making countries such as Iran, Sudan, N. Korea, etc.
Economy: Although she will have second largest economy by next year, but the size of United States still twice as big as China. GDP per person still only one-tenth of the most developed countries. China yet to set up a good health care and social safety network. China economy growth are still too dependent on export and investment. Wage is not keeping up with their GDP growth. Consumers in China still can't replace the Consumer in Europe and U.S.
Science: As we all know, China is not a leader in science, academic, technology and innovation.
Military: China is at least 20 years behind United States. Unites States has put man on moon, robots on Mars, B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, F22 5th generation, Aircraft Carriers, AH-64D Apache Longbow, etc. China has none of these.
She still have many trouble, problem, issues to overcome and LOT of catch up before she can be a superpower.
the superpowers were britian america russia and china at one time they controlled the world :::::::::China influenced japan
The US was considered a superpower after World War II, when the European powers declined, partly because of the loss of their colonies to independence movements. The war similarly sparked the advance of the Soviet Union to superpower status, and the Maoist takeover did the same for China. Whether the US currently shares superpower status with China is debatable, but China does not yet have an equal international presence. China (and most of Asia) has benefitted substantially from trade with the United States. The beginning of US worldwide influence dates from the Spanish American War, which brought it the Philippines and increased trade in the Pacific.
Communist China during the Korean War .
China has one of the world's fastest growing economies and is a potential superpower of the future. To not allign oneself with China would be a mistake that i don't think any US politician would want to be remebered for. There are no substantial reasons why the US would not want to have political relations with China.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the unified military organization of all land, sea, strategic missile and air forces of the People's Republic of China.
According to the current situation china can't be stated as a superpower .India's fast growing economy can give tough competition to china. At present the U.S is the major superpower in the world.
