Yes, gambling is prohibited and gambler is sinful in religion.

Quran says (meaning English translation): " ... Intoxicants and gambling,..., are an abomination of Satan's handiwork: Eschew such (abomination), that you may prosper Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants and gambling and to hinder you from the remembrance of God (Allah) and from prayer: Will you not then abstain?" [Quran, chapter 5, verse 90-91]

Even if playing free for fun, and not or for real money, it is also prohibited for two reasons:

  • it may persuade one later to play with real money
  • it is waste of time that could be used in something funny also but more useful intellectually, socially, or physically.

However, God is love and is merciful to the sinner. He may forgive him/her if he/she admits that he/she made a sin, repents, and sincerely intends not to repeat the sin again.

God is always accepting you with love.

You mean, you regard it as sinful! I don't but I do know it can be addictive hence harmful.

Gambling is not prohibited in most countries of the world, although it is usually hedged with laws, for example to protect children by barring them from something they are not mature and wise enough to handle. (Neither are many adults, though!) Although it may have social value, a prohibition given by one or another religion is true theologically only for those followers of that religion who choose - or are forced - to accept the prohibition.

On a more philosophical point, if you don't believe in any god then a rule in any religious text is de facto meaningless beyond any direct social value like "Though shalt not steal", notwithstanding national laws based on such texts. To explain the last clause, I would not seek to "sin" in a country like Saudi Arabia, because although I don't believe I might upset a god whose existence I doubt anyway, it is a serious crime in a Dictatorship that enjoys torturing "sinners" whatever the official deity might think.

I agree that gambling can be a waste of money and time, though.
