Today, the Michiganese enjoy many of the same foods as the rest of the United States. There, are, however, brands that originate in Michigan. As a Michiganian myself, I am not sure exactly how far they are all distributed.
There is Vernors Ginger Ale, which has very sharp bubbles and a pretty strong taste. (Mix with vanilla ice cream for a delicious Boston Cooler.) It can't be found everywhere, but it's popular in Michigan and one of the few ginger ales on the market that has real ginger.
The Jiffy Baking Mix Factory is in Michigan, and Jiffy mixes make great muffins. Jiffy Cornbread is a favorite. (Interesting Trivia: The Jiffy Company has NEVER paid extra for better shelf placement in stores, which is why it is usually found on the top shelves or bottom shelves in the grocery store, not at eye level.)
And Better Made Potato Chips. They are so good because they are made better. You can't deny it. They are delicious. (In case you want to sample some of Michigan's finest foods, I recommend the BBQ Better Made Potato Chips.)
Oh, and Big Boy Restaurants. (Not a food in and of itself, but a popular venue.) Can only be found in Michigan.
Mackinac Island, an island between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan, is famous for its fudge which any Michigander will tell you is the best in the world.
Likewise, the city of Frankenmuth is famous for its superb cheese and beer. But while Mackinac Island has no competition for fudge, there are fantastic microbreweries all over Michigan and many locals are as loyal to local microbrews as to our sports teams and local bands.
Packzi, a sweet, fruit or custard-filled pastry is a tradition Fat Tuesday treat in Michigan where Fat Tuesday is called Packzi day by locals.
Also, cherries grow in Michigan and early summer is cherry season. We love cherries in Michigan!
