It is an extremely subjective question to ask if violence can ever be justified and everyone has a different answer. The question has been argued about in philosophy for centuries.

no one knows. i think it is because he had really good speeches so he knew what to say to get the violence he did/caused justified. He convinced the judges a lot with long motivational speeches.
William wanted to become King of England, the only way of achieving that goal was to be violent towards his enemies or they would have killed him. He could have stayed in Normandy, but he could not become king if he did.

Violence is bad because nothing good comes out of it. People die and get hurt and bad crimes happen. Girls get raped and get forced to do stuff they do not want to.
