Since there weren't any "Missouri Raiders" in the Vietnam War (officially anyway), then it's got to be Quantrill's Raiders fighting in the border states of Kansas and Missouri during the US Civil War. They were called guerrillas, raiders, and mostly "bushwhackers" by the men from that era. They supposedly were NOT sanctioned by the Confederacy (meaning not recognized as legal combatants). Technically, under the letter of the law, they could've been executed whenever they were captured since they were not protected as legal combatants (technically this also applied to the Confederacy since they weren't recognized by the US Gov't either...hence no declaration of war against them by the US Gov't...an act that would've "recognized the CSA as a legitimate country").
he used guerilla warfare, he let everyone have a word in
throughout most of the war, they mainly employed guerilla tactics, however, in the push to saigon, conventional warfare was adopted as the main military strategy among the NVA, but the viet cong largely maintained their use of guerilla warfare
The continued guerilla warfare in Spain and the major loss in Russia.
Guerilla warriors were often using irregular warfare techniques. They tended to be a small group of combatants such as armed civilians or irregulars that used military techniques including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military.
Total conventional warfare has not really been used on a major large scale since the Korean War. This is army against army. In Vietnam the U.S. was able to defeat the NVA by means of conventional warfare. This was a problem for the NVA who knew that they could be defeated by conventional warfare. They changed their strategy to a more unconventional guerilla warfare which is hit and run tactics and ambushes. This strategy was put into great effect in Afghanistan when Soviet Forces invaded. Conventional warfare has been used on a smaller scale in the First Gulf War and the Iraq War. The modern day war in Afghanistan observes guerilla warfare as seen in Vietnam and Afghanistan decades earlier.
They were both militia leaders and farmers. Both practiced guerilla warfare and was a "hero" at Fort Wilderness.
