If one goes back to 1933 the division was very roughly two-thirds Protestant and one-third Roman Catholic. In 1938 Germany added Austria and the Sudetenland, which were both overwhelmingly Roman Catholic. This may have brought the percentage of Roman Catholics up to about 45% or so by 1939. Joncey
