The first serious plans and preparations for the actual attack began in January 1941. A hypothetical attack on the Pearl Harbor base had been on the exams given at the Japanese Naval Academy for years though. Both Japanese and Americans thought an attack on Pearl Harbor was not feasible because the torpedoes dropped from bomber ran too deep after dropping and would get stuck in the bottom of the harbor, a problem which Japan solved by practicing extreme low-level drops and fitting the torpedoes with wooden fins for extra buoyancy.

In the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces on December 7th 1941 destroyed 188 planes.No data can be found as to how many planes have been destroyed in the entire history of aviation in that given location, though I doubt it's much more.

Pearl Harbor was attacked without provocation on December 7th in 1941 by the Japanese Naval fleet and airplanes. The next significant battle was the Battle of Midway in which the US Navy soundly beat the Japanese. This lifted the morale of the US populous and the US Navy.
