Well, you may know why he got in prison, but I'll tell you so you would understand. Hitler copied Italy's fascists in appearance and also had adopted some programmatical points, and in 1923, Hitler wanted to emulate Mussolini's "March on Rome" by staging his own "Campaign in Berlin". This is also known as the "Beer Hall Putsch" (sometimes as the "Hitler Putsch" or "Munich Putsch"). It wasn't very successful, the police dispersed them. Sixteen NSDAP members were killed. After that, he was soon arrested for high treason. During Hitler's trial, he was given almost unlimited time to speak, and his popularity soared as he voiced nationalistic sentiments in his defence speech. A Munich personality became a nationally known figure. On 1 April 1924, Hitler was sentenced to five years' imprisonment. He was pardoned and released from jail in December 1924, as part of a general amnesty for political prisoners. So no one knew it in that time, that Hitler would want to run the world someday. He attacked Poland in 1939 to have more provinces, and it was way after the Beer Hall Putsch.
