In the United States, the three co-equal branches of the government are the Executive branch headed by the President, the Legislative branch including the House and the Senate, and the Judicial branch consisting of a Supreme Court and such lesser courts as Congress shall authorize.

This three-branched republic was outlined by the Roman Senator Cicero at the end of the Roman Republic. Too bad that our own Republic appears to be dying.
