Lisbon [Lisboa], Portugal is the westernmost capital of continental Europe. It's located on the west coast where the Tagus River [Rio Tejo] flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Lisbon's geographic coordinates are 38 degrees 42 minutes North latitude and 9 degrees 5 minutes West longitude.

One of Lisbon's striking geographic features is the Monsanto Forest Park [Parque Florestal de Monsanto]. The PFM takes up much of Lisbon's western sector. With an area of around 4 square miles [10 square kilometers], PFM is one of the largest urban parks in Europe. PFM was created by law on November 1, 1936 [Decree No. 24 635] for the reforestation of the Monsanto Hills [Serra da Monsanto]. In March 1993 the Ecological Park of Monsanto [Parque Ecológico de Monsanto] was established in the northern part primarily for environmental education.
