The Romans' main contribution was to western and, to a lesser degree, eastern European civilisation. The west became deeply influenced from the Renaissance on. This was a period of 're-birth' of interest in the classics (Romans and Greeks) in the 15th and 16th centuries. From then to very recently, art and learning were deeply influenced by the Romans. The influence on Eastern Europe was through Orthodox Christianity which originally was the religion of the eastern part of the Roman Empire.

The Roman did not make any contribution to global civilisation as there never was a global civilisation. They did not have an impact on Indian or Chinese civilisation or the civilisations of the Far East and Southeast Asia. They did not influence Arab civilisation either, which was influenced by the ancient Greeks in the Middle Ages.
