I don't think there was a grouping called the Axis in WWI, the Axis was in WWII.

The Axis Powers were in World War II. The side opposing the Allies in World War I was the Central Powers, which was composed of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire.
