The Battle of the Alamo was fought on March 6, 1836. It was a clash between rebellious Texans, who wanted to be independent from Mexico, and the Mexican army, which wanted to maintain its hold over Texas. The Mexicans wanted to make an example out of the Texans, to show them the dangers of rebellion.
There were several events that led to the Alamo. Some of these events include shifting away from the federalist model, the Texans driving the Mexicans troops out of Mexican Texas and the Mexican army attacking the Alamo.
The Battle of the Alamo was fought for TEXAS INDEPENDANCE. And did NOT involve the United States. Texas became it's own country, from 1836 to 1845. In 1845, Texas JOINED the United States, and became a state.
After a 13 day Siege Santa Anna launched an early morning attack that failed twice, but within an hour had killed the last defender.
