The Sac and Fox tribes, also known as the Sac and Fox Nation, originated in the Great Lakes region of North America, particularly in present-day Wisconsin and Illinois. They were originally part of the Algonquian-speaking peoples. Over time, due to various pressures, including European colonization and westward expansion, they migrated to areas such as Iowa and Oklahoma. Today, the Sac and Fox Nation is primarily based in Oklahoma.

During the Black Hawk War of 1832, it is estimated that around 150 to 200 Sac and Fox Indians died. The conflict resulted in significant loss of life and displacement for the Native American tribes involved. Many of these deaths were due to combat, while others were attributed to disease and starvation following the war. The war ultimately led to the removal of the Sac and Fox tribes from their traditional lands.
