The American Constitution gave the people the power to change all of their leaders simply by voting in an election. In nearly every other country, turning out the leaders required a violent revolt at that time. The elections that we take for granted were a fantastic new thing at the time the Constitution was created.
When speaking about the US Constitution, the term used to change this governing document is called an amendment. Since its original ratifications there have been numerous amendments added to it. Important ones abolished slavery and gave women the right to vote.

The Framers of the US Constitution believed of course that Constitution would require changes as time passed, however, they were cautious about changes and the amendment process is difficult.
