Bród means "as Gaeilge" pride. Such a small word for such a huge emotional psychology. Proud of our past; proud of our ability for reconciliation. Proud of our sincerity. It does not mean arrogance (not in our indigenous vocabulary, unfortunately, but smart and witty are) There are other words for 'pride' in the Gaelic languages but BRÓD means more than just that. Its so much more positive We have conquered the earth and been conquered ourselves that shapes who we are; we have influenced and participated in the development of almost every nation and culture on this plane, India, America, Britain, the entire of Europe (without Ireland scholars in the 5th century on; there would be no European culture as we know it;) and in most of those places did it quietly without either wish nor need for acknowledgement.

Bród na nÉireannach means 'Irish Pride'

Proud to be Irish is another matter.
