around 900a.d for unknown reason the construction of massive temples and stone monuments stopped.cities were abandoned. but they did not disappear they just moved out from each other.more than 6000,000,000 Maya people stiil live in Guatemala,Belize and southern Mexico

Mayans (Maya) as a people are still very much alive, contrary to popular belief in the United States. During the Classical Mayan period, many Maya lived in city states, similarly to the ancient Greeks. Now many Maya live in villages and towns, or on farms, and some have migrated to big cities in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras, and other countries around the world, particularly Canada and the United States. There are currently about 7 million Mayan people, speaking more than 20 Mayan languages, with many people speaking Spanish, English, etc.
