What happened to the American attitude about the war after the Russian revolution?

Russia (Soviet Union) and Red China supported North Vietnam. They supported North Vietnam both morally and materially. They treated North Vietnam as a friend or possibly as part of the "communist family." But the Soviets (Russians) probably were hoping that this war wouldn't escalate into one involving them (which could go nuclear).

Possibly, if you will, consider this analogy; if a big brother was watching his little brother boxing in the ring, that big brother would be Russia (USSR/or Red China).

It's important to include Communist China during "supportive function" debates, as Red China supplied North Vietnam with nearly ALL of the MiG-19 (J6 series) jet fighters. And a very large portion of the North's MiG-17 jet fighters; the Soviets (Russians) primarily supplied the MiG-21's and SAM missiles. Additionally, a large portion of the NVA's PT-76 Amphibious light tanks and T-54/55 medium tanks were Red Chinese manufactured versions; and the vast majority of hand-grenades, AK-47s, SKS carbines and K54 pistols were CHICOM (Chinese Communist). In fact Red Chinese captured infantry weapons (called small arms in the military world) were so common, they were ALWAYS referred to in reports and radio transmissions as "Chicom grenades", "Chicom AKs", etc. When an enemy grenade came flying thru the air, GI's screamed out "CHICOM!" And everybody hit the dirt (went prone).
