The Iroquois Confederacy, also known as the Haudenosaunee or the Six Nations, is a political and cultural alliance of six Native American tribes: the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and later the Tuscarora. Formed in the late 16th century, this confederation aimed to enhance their collective strength and maintain peace and cooperation among the tribes. The Iroquois developed a sophisticated system of governance and played a significant role in North American history, particularly during European colonization and conflicts.

The Iroquois Confederacy was a group of Eastern Woodlands Indians that consisted of several tribes, including the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca. The unity among these tribes allowed them to form a powerful alliance for mutual defense and governance.
First of all, the Iroquois are not a "tribe" by popular understanding. They are, inherently, a "nation" comprised of several tribes (also called "clans"). The name "Iroquois" was awarded them by French traders. Traditionally, they are referred to as Haudenosaunee, or "People of the Longhouse". Originally, five nations made up the body of the Iroquois League. They are the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca nations. The Tuscarora joined in 1722, making the Iroquois become known as the Six Nations. As far as them being warriors, certain member tribes of the League were known to be warlike. However, the whole was more diplomatic than combative.
Hiawatha fondly remembered as the 'Great Peacemaker' founded the powerful Iroquois confederacy by uniting six tribes. Together they were a formidable force in North America.

The Iroquois
Almost. The Iroquois were a confederation of 5 tribes (later 6); initially the Onondagas, Cayugas, Senecas, Mohawks and Oneidas, they were later joined by the Tuscaroras. This league of tribes was one of the most powerful groups of people in North America, defeating and often absorbing the people of many of the neighbouring tribes. So there is no such thing as the Iroquois tribe; it is the name of a league of allied tribes.

They conquered other tribes, expanding their empire. They formed a confederacy of tribes that banded together. They had a strong economic infrastructure.
The Iroquois Confederacy was powerful due to their organized political structure, effective military tactics, and strategic alliances with other Native American tribes. They also had a strong agricultural economy and a sophisticated system for trading goods.
The original Iroquois League (also known as the Five Nations) consisted of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca tribes.
From the 1500s on, several tribes joined together in the Iroquois Confederacy, which wrote a peace treaty among themselves which still governs those tribes. Their democratic system inspired the American Colonists' development of the U.S. government.
The league of the Iroquois originally comprised the Seneca, Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida and Onondaga. They were later joined by the Tuscarora.
There were historically many powerful confederacies formed by native American tribes. Examples are the Powhatan confederacy, the Blackfoot confederacy, the Iroquois confederacy and many more.
