I think it's where many years ago, people would draw on the cave walls in colours, somewhat like painting, and record what has happened to them.
Lots of different cultures have indigenous people who did various types of cave painting or carvings. When I was in Australia, there are many ancient caves that have lots of old cave paintings.

I actually bought some Aboriginal art while I was out there that is amazing. Check out this website, there are some examples of the art and I believe that there is a section on cave art.

Being inside the cave, I suppose the caveman painter must have had a campfire burning to see what he was painting. When night came, the flickering flames from the dying embers would give an illusion of motion to the animals on the wall. This is what he had instead of television.
