'Salemi' is a town in South West Sicily, Italy. It comes from the word 'Salam' or 'Salem' which means 'peace' in Arabic. The Arabs settled there; by doing this, they expanded their Empire. It is likely that the Phoenicians (modern day Lebanon) had an input in the name too.
