Most Eatons pocket watches were imported from Switzerland, and were originally made by Gallet. The one I have is serial 177698 and is (i believe) from the 1920's. That would suggest that yours is from the 30's or 40's. You may sometimes here that Eatons pocket watches have Rolex movments, but that seems to only be their "1/4 century club" presentation watches (and it's somewhat moot anyway because Rolex didn't make Pocketwatches, they bought mostly from Cortebert and just finished them in house).
That is not the serial number. It is the Patent Number. The serial number is found below this number. The Model 37 I have has this patent number on it and the serial number is 24071. I would also like to know the manufacture date of this rifle.
serial number T170160 would have been made in 1973.
The rifle had the serial number C 2766.
I was told by a gun collector that a five digit number on an imported derringer is not a serial number- it is a lot number ( a serial number should be at least 6 digits) what about the proof markings on the gun? can this identify the company or date or just the country of origin?

You cannot always identify a pocket watch size by it's serial number but you can by measuring it. See this web site for inches to size designation.
Per proofhouse.com ,the Colt pocket positive with that serial number was made in 1917,making it about 92 years old.
