The invasion of the Arabs in North Africa was a star of a long golden age. The region became a vital center of trade between Europe, Africa, and Asia and an important center of learning and scholarship.

Their treatment of the local population was not good; these dark skinned people were forced to convert to Islam; those who refused were killed or sold into slavery; particularly true of the females who were used as sexual chattel. In time the Arab population outstripped that of the locals transforming this part of Africa into greater Arabia.

Furthermore the entrenchment of Arabs in what became known as the Magreb reduced the Influence of the Israelite settlements that had been in Africa for over 1600 years before Islam. Without doubt it was Muslim pressures from the North and East that greatly impacted on the decline and finally the destruction of the Hebrew kingdom of Ghana.
