Edward VI was a boy-king, who came to the throne when his father, Henry VIII, died in 1547. He was crowned at the age of only 9 and lived only up to the age of 15, when he died of tuberculosis.
It's difficult to assess what kind of ruler he was, as his extreme youth meant that he was only a figurehead monarch, with the real power and decisions being taken by the specially set-up 'Regency Council' which consisted of his various guardians, among whom were the Earl of Dudley and the Duke of Northumberland. His main achievements were to have founded some grammar schools, which still exist today; most of the important affairs of state were decided upon by the Council and may not have been Edward's decision at all, so it's impossible to say that they eminated from him personally.
His reign was plagued by economic and social problems, which included anti-Government riots in London in 1549 and an expensive war with Scotland that ultimately proved inconclusive for both sides. However, he did take an unpleasant delight in the torture and execution of the leaders of the rioting, which even allowing for the fact that he was only a child, still don't suggest that he was a very nice person.
On his deathbed, he was persuaded by the Duke of Northumberland to nominate his cousin Lady Jane Grey as his heir to the throne, over and above his two half-sisters Elizabeth and Mary Tudor. Northumberland was also related to Lady Jane, and had personal ambitions to stake a senior position for himself at Court if Jane took the throne. However, the plan backfired- Lady Jane was proclaimed Queen but reigned for only 9 days after Edward's death in 1553, never being crowned and being ultimately ousted and executed by the ruthless Mary Tudor, who went on to reign for 5 years and earned the nickname 'Bloody Mary' for her genocidal persecution of the Protestant population.
