They used the Federalist Papers. The Federalist, a collection of essays originally published in the New York press between 1787 and 1788 were started by Alexander Hamilton. There were 85 articles with about 50 by Hamilton, 30 by James Madison and 5 by John Jay. They defended the principle of a supreme national authority while at the same time reassured the people and states that they had little reason to fear usurpation's and tyranny by the new government.
