The Soviet Union, which had signed a nonaggression pact with Germany in 1939 known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, eventually joined the Allies after Germany invaded the Soviet Union in June 1941. This invasion prompted the USSR to align with the Allied powers against the Axis forces. The shift was significant in altering the course of World War II.
The Soviet Union signed the non-aggression act called the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in Moscow on August 23, 1939. It did not, however, deter Hitler from attacking the USSR, anyway, in June, 1941.
